5 Ways to Make Your Afrobeats Event Stand Out

The holidays are approaching and if you're a lover of Afrobeats, you know full well this is our season to shine.

Because if there's one thing the originators of Afrobeats don't play with, it's the holiday season. They like to do it up big, with celebrations back-to-back.

With Afrobeats experiencing a meteoric rise to fame, this year is going to be jampacked with Afrocentric events every weekend.

This is wonderful news for the culture and the genre. It's great to see Afrobeats get the love and appreciation it deserves. But it brings with it an interesting problem.

With Afrobeats events becoming commonplace, how do you make your event the one everyone talks about? What can you do to make sure your event is the one people remember?

Below are 5 ways to make your event stand out from the crowd of fun-loving, merry-making, Afrobeats lovers.

5 Ways to Make Your Afrobeats Event Stand Out

Music is an important part of the African culture. But it's only one part of our culture. If you want your Afrobeats event to stand out, allow party-goers to experience other aspects of African culture.

1. Food

Jollof rice is already fast becoming an international sensation. Why not add it to your menu? And for late-night events, what's better than some Asun and Suya? It's an easy finger food to eat and doesn't require additional utensils. Wash it down with some authentic palm wine and your guests will feel as though they're in the heart of Lagos ringing in the new year.

2. Decor / Art

Showcase African art in your venue, so when attendees step into your event, they'll feel as if they're stepping into the best of African culture. Let them see our artistry reflected in your decor.

But don't just display the European-influenced, Afrocentric art. Go for authentic pieces that display our way and love of life.

3. Cultural Wear

Your event is the perfect opportunity to put African fashion on the world stage. Imagine your dance floor filled with people in colourful African fashion from different regions of the continent.

Of course, the threads have to allow movement for dancing. But that shouldn't be a problem. After all, traditional wear has never stopped a party back in Africa.

4. Language

Put Afrobeats fans to the test. Are they really listening to the music? If they are, then they should have picked up a few words in the native languages by now.

If they're a true fan though, they've gone down the rabbit hole to learn more than a few words. Why not offer a discount on their drink order if they can place their order in the native language?

That's an activity that is sure to bring some laughs.

5. Music

Nothing is more authentic to African musical culture than a live performance. We like seeing artists live. We like being close enough to feel their sweat on our bodies.

But as the holiday season is very busy for Afrobeats artists, it might be difficult to schedule a live performance.

If you find yourself in a situation like that, make sure you have 1. an Afrobeats DJ that knows how to get the crowd grooving; and 2. a space large enough for people to dance.

Then step back and watch as the distinctive beats take hold of the audience.

2023 has been difficult for many people. As a result, they're going to be coming out in full force to celebrate the end of a hard year and their hopes for the new one.

If your event is authentic and gives them something new to experience, it'll be the event that everyone remembers and talks about.
