What to do when you can't afford a birthday celebration?

Are you planning on throwing a birthday party for your loved one but don't have the funds to do it up big? Have no fear! There are still plenty of ways to have an exciting and entertaining event without breaking the bank. In this blog post, we will give you some tips on how to throw an Afrobeats themed birthday party on a budget!

Plan ahead

The first tip is to plan ahead. This will allow you to get a better idea of what your budget needs to be and save money by researching all your alternative or “cheaper” options in advance with enough time to execute them. We recommend using this time to look out for any deals, special offers or discounts on venues, food, decoration and other events services.  With the price of goods and services going up over time, the sooner you can bag a deal the better for your party budget.

Have the party at home

Hosting your party at home, in your garden or even at a friend’s house is a great way to save money because you won't have to pay for a venue. Just make sure you have some friends willing to stay back and help you clean up afterwards 😀

Keep your guest list small

Another way to save money on your birthday party is by having a smaller guest list. This will help to reduce the overall cost of the event and can also make the party feel more intimate and special for those who are in attendance.

Have a day party

If you're really wanting to cut costs, then why not have the party during the daytime instead of at night? This will help to save on things like food and drinks as venues tend to charge more when there's an event taking place later in evening hours.

Ask friends and family members to contribute

Do you have an “Auntie” that can cook? A friend who is a professional photographer? A family member who can decorate or bake cakes? A neighbour who can lend you their speakers? Asking friends and family members to contribute their skills and resources is a good way to get the things you need for your party without having to spend any money yourself. Just be sure to set clear expectations upfront about what and how people can contribute.

Have a potluck party

Food and catering is often the most costly element when planning an event. Asking your friends and family to bring a dish and/or a bottle can help with cutting costs in this area and can also be a lot of fun because everyone gets to bring something different to the table!

DIY where you can!

From decorations to food, there's no reason why you can't do everything yourself when throwing a budget-friendly birthday party.  You can use decorations that you already have, or even create and send party invitations using online tools like Canva for FREE. Doing It Yourself can help keep costs down while also bringing out your creative side!

We hope these tips help you throw a birthday party that your loved one will enjoy and remember, regardless of your budget!
